Stay in Your Lane to Maximize Your Growth Chances

While we all have potential for greatness, success often comes when we recognize and nurture the skills that emerge early in life.

I know this firsthand. In Primary Four, I played the role of a teacher in a school drama. I must have done well because soon after, I was nicknamed Mwalimu by teachers, parents and fellow learners.

Funny enough, teaching wasn’t my first career choice, but it was something I was naturally good at. Looking back, I’m grateful that destiny kept me within the boundaries of my gifting. There would be no edagogyuganda.com !

Yet, many hesitate to embrace teaching due to common concerns:

❎ "Will I make ends meet?"

✅ Every profession thrives on solving problems. The more you skill yourself to tackle learning challenges, the more valuable (and well-paid) you become.

❎ "Teaching isn’t prestigious."

✅ Few careers hold as much power to shape a nation’s future as teaching. Think about it—out of all the roles Jesus played, people identified him as a teacher.

❎ "I'll just teach for a while."

✅ Many enter teaching as a temporary choice, while there is nothing wrong with career transition, that mindset can trap them in mediocrity. Growth comes when we plant ourselves fully and refine our craft over time.

When you choose a career outside your natural talents and passion, here’s what happens:

1️⃣ Your community misses out on the best version of your service. 2️⃣ You limit your own potential for greatness. 3️⃣ You will always be second best—because where you go, others are naturally gifted, and you can't out-compete them at their own game. 4️⃣ You may find success, but fulfillment will always be missing.

Teachers, let’s be intentional about growing in our strengths. The world needs the best version of you!
