What's Your Response?

There’s more to education than books and exams. Children are growing through different emotional and social stages—and they are asking questions that shape how they see themselves and the world.

The Orange Curriculum by Reggie Joiner highlights some key questions children ask at each stage. These questions are not just cute—they’re critical. If they’re not answered well, they leave gaps that affect a child’s learning, confidence, and sense of purpose.

Take a moment to reflect: how are you, as a teacher, answering these questions?

Early Years (0-5):

⏩ Can I trust you?

⏩ Why should I do that?

Stay in Your Lane to Maximize Your Growth Chances

While we all have potential for greatness, success often comes when we recognize and nurture the skills that emerge early in life.

I know this firsthand. In Primary Four, I played the role of a teacher in a school drama. I must have done well because soon after, I was nicknamed Mwalimu by teachers, parents and fellow learners.

Funny enough, teaching wasn’t my first career choice, but it was something I was naturally good at. Looking back, I’m grateful that destiny kept me within the boundaries of my gifting. There would be no edagogyuganda.com !

Yet, many hesitate to embrace teaching due to common concerns:

❎ "Will I make ends meet?"

✅ Every profession thrives on solving problems. The more you skill yourself to tackle learning challenges, the more valuable (and well-paid) you become.

Paul Naigo, Make teaching attractive.

Random Guy: How can we do that?

Paul Naigo, Tell me, what careers are attractive?

Random Guy: Oh, medical fields, engineering…

Are You a Lizard or a Teacher Ready for Growth?

One of my favorite pastors once said, “If you are a lizard, you will remain one even if you relocate to the USA.” He used this analogy to challenge the belief that changing your environment automatically fixes half your problems.

That said, I also believe that the right environment can make a huge difference—especially for teachers. Many teachers never reach their full potential because of the limiting conditions in their workplaces. If you truly want to leave a foot print in education, aim to work in top schools within your locality.

Why?

These schools provide the necessary conditions to support your teaching aspirations while allowing you to positively impact students' lives.

✅ Resources: Many schools expect creativity from teachers but fail to provide the necessary tools. The best schools invest in resources that make teaching more effective.
